So, let's face it, even the most die-hard winter fans (myself included) are beginning to tire of all the season. It's fricken cold outside, it seems like it is always snowing, and my hands are dry and chapped. So, this weeks Wine Of The Week is going to transport us out of late January Boston, and into Spring in the Carribean.
Sur Torrontes
For those of you not fortunate enough to have yet been introduced to this delightful little grape, well let me be the first to say, "you're welcome." Summer in a bottle, this can bring the sun out in the coldest and darkest of winter days. Bright flavors of melon, citrus and peach are balanced by the great acidity to create this light and refreshing sipper. Pairs perfectly with speghetti with sauteed tomotoes and asparagus, or, at the everyday price of $9.99, another bottle.
Hope you like it,
Louis

New Items
Hey Gallery-ers,
It's been a big couple of weeks huh? New pres, lots of changes happening all over the globe, and more importantly, at the Wine Gallery as well. We have brought in so many new wines this week that it would almost be easier to list what is NOT new. In an effort to save my wrists from carpal-tunnel, I'm going to break it down by region, so check in for new wines from:
Souhtern Rhone
All of Italy
Provence
Bordeaux
California
New Zealand
Basically, what I'm saying is, no matter what your tastes are, we've got it.
Come down, have a glass of wine and I'd be happy to talk about any of them with you.
Cheers,
Louis

Wine Of The Week
Hey all,
All of our previous WOTW have been red and I felt I needed to show our white wines a little love as well. As anyone who has been into our Brookline location and tasted this wine, they don't come much more refreshing than this.
Aljibes Blanco
A blend of 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Chardonnay, this Spanish gem showcases a tremendous amount of bright citrus fruit, with a lovely mid-palate and balance to boot. At $14.99 (discountable up to 25%) and available in all three stores, this wine makes a great everyday sipper.
Come by for a taste, you won't regret it.

What's new
If you came by and sampled our Alcina Pinot Noirs, then you know that the Alcina Cellars are producers of some truly amazing wines. Both single vineyard wines were well received with people going in either direction. This week we tried some other wines from Alcina, three single vineyard Syrahs, and loved them all as well, so, we had no choice but to bring them in.
Alcina Cellars Gabrielli Vineyard
Alcina Cellars Connel Vineyard
Alcina Cellars Las Madres Vineyard
Keep checking back and look for them to be tasted in the future...

Fact of The Week
So, because of the chosen wine of the week, I felt it important to, once again, make this a TOTW. And because, I have yet to give you a fact, you get TWO terms this week. Keep checking though, eventually we'll have a fact.
(Un)fined- Wines that are fined, have had their particles removed from them. There are many ways of doing this, from putting the wine in a giant centrifuge, to simply racking them neck down. Many wine makers (David Coffaro included) believe that by fining a wine, too much of the flavor is removed. Thus, wines that are unfined have those particles still in them. Often times they are labeled as "unfined" as a way to illustrate that they should be "more flavorful."
(Un)filtered- A wine that has been filtered, has been pumped through any number of filters, be they cellulose, or fine membranes, with the intention of removing yeast cells or other microorganisms that can potentially spoil the wine. Essentially, it is used as an insurance policy. Some winemakers, typically the same ones that have negative opinions about fining, feel that filtering is also a great way to take the hard-worked flavor out of their wines, and leave them unfiltered. Just like a wine that has been unfined, sediment is likely, and will also likely be marked as unfined. Typically, the two go together.
Well, that's all for this week. Hope you enjoyed yourself and learned a thing (or two)

Wine of The Week
Just because the Fetch GSM has been booted off of our WOW list, doesn't mean you shouldn't try it. It's in our Jukebox, which as we all know, means free wine.
Let's let the past be the past, and look towards this week. I've got something great for you.
David Coffaro Zinfandel
This is a lighter, and more subtle style California Zin, one that won't leave you feeling woozy after one glass. Packed with great spice, balanced tannins, and bright fruit, this wine makes a great pairing with everyday foods; pizza, pasta, chicken Parmesan, it's so versatile that you can pretty much name it. Unfined and unfiltered means that finding sediment is perfectly normal, and creates a more "traditional" feel. $24.99 with discounts that can bring it down to $18.74, stop by and pick up a bottle today.
Happy drinking,
Louis

Fact Of The Week
Welcome to the Fact Of The Week section of our blog, or as I like to call it, FOTW (pronounced fuh-TOW) Here is where you come to learn one little fact a week in your lifelong journey to becoming a full-fledged wine snob.
NB- The FOTW, may also, as is the case this week, become the TOTW- see if you can figure out this puzzling acronym.
Malolactic Fermentation
Malolactic Fermentation, often abbreviated as simply Malo, is the process of converting tart malic acid into softer, lactic acid. Think of it as turning apple juice into milk. Malo is performed on most red wines, and is more of an option when it comes to whites. It causes wine to have a rounder, creamier mouth feel, and is seen in a lot of oaked wines, especially Californian Chardonnay.

What's New
Wow. The new year came, and we at the Wine Gallery certainly got to work. With eight new Italian wines, three new Pinot Noirs (two of them single vineyard!) and a new Petite Sirah, we were quite busy processing it all (as were our livers!) Here's a little break down.
Terra Del Galeso:
Rosso- Opulent and luscious, this wine goes the distance. Packed with bright fruit and and a long silky finish, a wonderful everyday wine (14.99)
Primotivo- The Italian word for Zinfandel-but not your average California Zin. Darker in color than traditional California Zin, with more balanced tannins and an inky flavor, this will pair very well with smoked meats (14.99)
Rosatto- A bright pink color with a flavor profile typical of Italian Rose. Bright fruit, with a hint of sweetness, try pairing with acidic salads. (14.99)
Chardonnay- Little oak gives this a bright fruit flavor with a crisper mouth feel and lovely finish. Clear, clean and enjoyable. (14.99)
Almagesto- A proprietary blend of Primotivo, Negroamaro, and (the commonly used) Black Malvasia (duh!) Dark, sultry and serious, this is food wine. Pair with hearty winter fare- think filet au poive, beef stew, or even chocolate. For lovers of dark, rich wine. (19.99)
Chierico- 100% Primotivo. Wintry, with wonderful body and spice, dark fruit, and a full mouth feel that leaves you longing for that second sip. The soft tannins and good acidity make for a wonderfully balanced wine. Good glass after delicious glass. (27.99)
Negroamante- A blend of 80% Negroamaro and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Hearty, but with a softer side that is not usually seen in wines of this sort. A dark, rich and racy nose leads way to a feathery soft palate of plums, currants, and blackberries, with a hint of clove. A super long finish leaves this wonderful wine lingering for minutes. (34.99)
Primonero- The flagship wine. 100% Primotivo. Simply amazing. Strong tannic presence but surprisingly balanced, this is a lesson is superior wine-making skills. With a bolder amount of fruit and tannins than any of the previous wines, this is a great wine for today or anytime in the next three years. Dark, rich fruit, balanced acidity, and a exceedingly long finish, I cannot rec commend it enough. (39.99)
Alcina Cellars
Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast (39.99)
Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast Ramondo Vineyard (49.99)
Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast Sangiacomo Vineyard (49.99)
Petite Sirah North Coast "The Sorceress" (49.99)
From start to finish these wines are... Hey! Wait a second... We're tasting all of these next Friday. YOU come by and tell me what they taste like. Sheesh!
See you friday!
